Girls Inc. DC programs are research based, hands- and minds-on, and age appropriate.

Girls Inc. DC inspires all girls to be strong, smart and bold through intentional, age-appropriate and research-based programs for middle and high school girls year-round. Our programs focus on STEAM exploration, building healthy relationships and encouraging girls to use their voice to advocate for themselves and others. Girls Inc. participants are equipped with tools to better navigate social, economic and gender-based barriers to grow into independent and healthy adults.

Our Programs

Some of the programs we’ve run this year include:

  • After-school Coding Club: held virtually in partnership with Girls Who Code, girls learn how to code and programming languages like Python. Get details on how to register for our latest after school Coding Club.

  • Bold Girls Society: the Bold Girls Society program is the flagship program of our partnership with Kipp College Prep Academy in Washington, DC. The 20 high school girls in the program meet three times a week to talk about issues that are important to them, with a focus on media literacy, responsible decision making and fostering positive relationships. They explore ways to navigate obstacles in safe, caring environments and are looked upon by adults in the school as leaders and are often called upon to share ideas with school administrators and others in the community. The girls have also created a Bold Girls Society Step team which practices weekly as a way to build discipline, stay active and have fun.

  • Summer STEM and Leadership Academy: held at Howard Middle School June 27 – July 22, Girls Inc. DC partnered with Boolean Girl, GE Girls, United Nations Association - National Capital Area, Grunley Construction and Dreamwakers as well as the Premiere Rugby Sevens all-women’s rugby league to bring the girls who participated 4 weeks of programs and activities around science, technology, sports, public speaking and more.
