Celebrating National Girls & Women in Sports Day

Girls in our Bold Girls Society at KIPP DC helped celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day® (NGWSD™) with the Women's Sports Foundation (WSF). Began in 1987 as a special day to recognize women’s sports has evolved into an annual movement, powered by WSF, to celebrate and inspire girls and women to realize their full power through the benefit of sport and advocate for TitleIX on the heels of the landmark law’s 50th anniversary. The day's event included a panel discussion led by top 25 WNBA player and 2x Olympic Gold Medalist Angel McCoughtry, swimmer and 2x Paralympic medalist Sophia Herzog-Gibb, former NWSL player Gaby Vincent, and Sr. Coordinator of Government Affairs at Delta Air Lines Justine Blaney, and was moderated by current WSF President and ice hockey Olympic medalist Meghan Duggan. The girls, alongside Howard University student-athletes and WSF Athlete Ambassadors Anna Johannes, Courtney Gano, Hayley Scamurra, and WSF Past President Benita Fitzgerald Mosley, participated in lacrosse, basketball, and softball drills. Events like this inspire our girls to be #strong and we were proud to do our part to advocate for more opportunities for girls and women in sports!
