OUR PAST PROGRAMS

The following programs were offered in previous years and are no longer accepting registrations.

STEM and Leadership Academy

STEM and Leadership Academy is our signature summer camp that takes place on the campus of Howard University. It is open to 25 middle school girls in the DMV Area. Each week, a different STEM partner hosts and provides hands-on activities including field trips for the participants. In the past, we have partnered with GE Healthcare, MTSI, SAIC and Grunley Construction. Participation is required for all four weeks and attendees may be eligible for a stipend at the end of the summer academy.

During the duration of the academy, girls have a great deal of fun participating in activities such as visiting Capitol Hill, creating lip balm and bath bombs, using fire extinguishers, deciphering codes, visiting the Air and Space Museum, driving a flight simulator, building robots and so much more!

Campers are not only exposed to STEM but they also engage in activities that help develop leadership skills, build positive friendships and promote teamwork.

STEM in Sports

STEM in Sports Week offers an exciting blend of athletics and academics, introducing participants to various sports while exploring the connections between science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in each activity.
Each day, campers engage in a new sport and discover the fascinating ways STEM enhances athletic performance. Topics include:

  • The role of technological advancements in improving athletes’ performance.
  • The collection and analysis of sports stats and data.
  • The physics of motion and the laws that govern movement in sports.
  • The application of angles, aerodynamics, and strategy in gameplay.

In addition to hands-on activities, participants explore STEM careers in sports, learning how they can be involved in the industry without being athletes themselves. After each lesson, girls will either try the sport themselves or attend a live game for an immersive experience.

This camp provides a dynamic educational opportunity filled with hands-on learning, active participation, and a deeper understanding of how STEM drives the world of sports.

Entrepreneurship Camp

MoLove’s Art Empowerment Entrepreneurship Training is a 5-day program that seamlessly combines emotional growth through art projects with practical entrepreneurial mindset training. Participants embark on a journey of self-awareness and entrepreneurship, engaging in diverse activities designed for personal and professional development. Under MoLove’s guidance, they explore their creativity, develop skills, and unlock their potential as artists and entrepreneurs. This program offers a supportive environment for individuals to discover passions, build confidence, and succeed in both artistic and business pursuits. MoLove’s dedication to empowering students through art and education shines in this transformative program, showcasing her commitment to fostering growth and transformation.

During this camp, participants create their own business, business plan, logo and other essential items for a business.

STEM Innovation Summer Workshop

There is a lot going on down here, but have you ever wondered about what is going on “up there”? If the answer is yes, then we invite you to spend a part of your summer with Girls Inc DC! Join our STEM Innovation Workshop Series taking place this summer from July 14th -18thย at Bard High School.
This summer workshop series is open to girls in 10th, 11th and 12th grade and is designed to inspire high school students to explore an exciting career in space and STEM. Students will become familiar with the history of satellites, learn about engineering and electronic components, gain hands-on experience in soldering and assembling their own satellite, learn about sensors, software coding and cover the fundamentals of environmental research, collaboration, and teamwork.
Building your own satellite may sound like a task reserved for seasoned engineers and space agencies, but this workshop is designed for students. All you need is a good attitude and an interest in how things work. We are looking for risk takers, innovators, builders and breakers! That of course is how we learn! We look forward to having you join us this summer!
