GIDC girl Joy Parker chosen for Teen Advocacy Council

Congratulations to Joy Parker, who has been selected to join the prestigious Girls Inc. National Teen Advocacy Council (TAC). Joy, a junior at KIPP College Prep Academy and a member of our Bold Girls Society, was selected as a member of the 8th Cohort of the National Teen Advocacy Council

This selected leadership body of Girls Inc. participants in grades 10-12 represent Girls Inc. affiliates across the US and in Canada. Joy, along with eleven other inspiring young women, will play a crucial role in advising and informing Girls Inc. on advocacy matters. Through sharing their life experiences and perspectives, TAC members contribute valuable insights on the challenges facing girls and youth in their schools and communities.

Throughout this year-long leadership position, Joy and her fellow TAC members will actively develop their advocacy skills. They will represent Girls Inc. at various settings, lead the organization's policy efforts, and engage in impactful activities such as social media campaigns and lobbying Congressional offices.

Joy's involvement reflects not only her personal dedication but also the recognition of her potential as a leader in advocating for issues that matter.

We're also thrilled to announce that Joy won first place in the Cinema Classroom at the Avalon's first-ever classroom essay contest, for her essay about the featured film, Soundtrack for a Revolution.

Congratulations, Joy Parker, for your strong, smart and bold achievements!
